Beijing, Oct 25 (The Street Press) – Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that China wants to work together with the United States. They want to be friends even when they don’t agree on everything. They will join hands to solve big problems in the world. This is according to Chinese state media.
Xi said it’s very important for the United States and China to figure out how to be good friends. He mentioned this during a letter delivered at a yearly dinner for the National Committee on United States-China Relations in New York.
Xi is asking for a better relationship between the United States and China. He thinks it should be based on being polite to each other, living in peace, and working together for everyone’s benefit. This request comes before a big visit from China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Washington this week.
Wang Yi’s visit, which will happen from Thursday to Saturday, is the most important face-to-face meeting before President Joe Biden and Xi are expected to meet in San Francisco during the November Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
During this summer, many important U.S. officials, including the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, had meetings with their Chinese counterparts in Beijing. The most important thing for Washington has been to make sure that even though the United States and China are competing a lot and have many disagreements on things like trade, Taiwan, and the South China Sea, they don’t end up fighting with each other.
A Chinese news source, the state-controlled Global Times, mentioned that Chinese experts believe Foreign Minister Wang’s visit might make it possible for the two leaders to meet, but they also said that the United States has to take real steps to deal with China’s worries and show that it’s serious about improving relations.
