Sep 14 (The Street Press) – On Monday, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will travel to California for a meeting with Elon Musk. Elon Musk, the tech entrepreneur, has been accused by civil rights groups of making anti-Jewish comments on his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter).

An official from Netanyahu’s office confirmed the meeting on Thursday. Musk, on his platform X, stated that their discussion would center around artificial intelligence technology, rather than addressing the ongoing dispute with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) concerning antisemitism on X.

The prime minister’s office announced that Netanyahu, known for his support of Israel’s high-tech industry, will engage in discussions about the development of artificial intelligence with Musk and other individuals.

The Washington Post, the source that first reported the Musk-Netanyahu meeting, cited information from five individuals familiar with the situation. They suggested that this meeting represents the latest effort by Musk’s Jewish friends and allies to address the growing criticism regarding the rise of antisemitic content on X.

Netanyahu is scheduled to meet President Joe Biden in New York next week, as confirmed by a U.S. official.

The prime minister’s office stated that the two leaders will have a meeting during Netanyahu’s visit to the UN General Assembly, where both are scheduled to deliver speeches. However, the precise location of the meeting was not specified.

Biden has raised concerns about Netanyahu’s government implementing a judicial overhaul and Israel’s expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Hate speech on X has seen a significant surge since Musk’s acquisition of the platform last year, during which he relaxed content moderation safeguards. Musk recently reported a substantial decline in U.S. ad revenue, noting a 60% decrease.

Various civil rights organizations, such as the Center for Countering Digital Hate and the ADL, have conducted research indicating a substantial increase in hate speech on X under Musk’s leadership. It’s worth mentioning that Musk also serves as the CEO of the electric carmaker Tesla.
